Workshops for Social Services Professionals

Did you know a child acquires a brain injury (ABI) every 30 minutes in the UK? That equates to approximately 20,000 children every year.  89% of children with an acquired brain injury have no physical signs of disability.

Children with an acquired brain injury often have very subtle yet complex support needs that change over time.  Despite a tendency to think otherwise, time isn’t always a healer.

Knowledge and understanding of ABI within many shared services, such as Education, Healthcare and Social Services is often very limited. Many professionals have had little experience of the subtle needs of children and young people with an acquired brain injury, due to the hidden nature of this disability.

For many children the quality of their ongoing support is imperative to their rehabilitation, and their special needs are often overlooked after discharge from hospital.

CBIT's training on childhood acquired brain injury aims to fill this gap in knowledge. The workshops provide a no-nonsense, jargon free approach to childhood acquired brain injury.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

Any  of the CBIT workshops are suitable for any professional working within Children's Social Services, Children with Disabilities teams, Outreach Teams, Portage, Support Workers and more.

Workshop Objectives

Attendance at any of CBIT’s one day workshops will provide an opportunity to understand how and why a childhood acquired brain injury can affect the way a child thinks, feels and responds to the world around them.  More importantly the workshop provides strategies to help you better understand the needs of these children and young people.

By attending the workshops, delegates will know and understand:
