Conference 2010 - What Lies Beneath

What Lies Beneath

Annual Conference and Exhibition, March 16th NEC Birmingham
APIL members – 5 hours CPD

Conference kindly sponsored by

The Child Brain Injury Trust holds an annual conference which cover a range of topics and emerging themes that keep delegates abreast of new developments and models of best practice. They facilitate debate around current thinking and policy and ensure that families concerns and issues are addressed at the highest level.

We are continuously looking for new ideas and themes for our conferences and we are happy to contribute to conferences hosted by other organisations and institutions.
Ultimately our aim is to raise awareness of childhood acquired brain injury, the social impact and the resources needed to ensure that families have the potential to lead normal lives. See photos from last years conference......

Conference 2010

“What Lies Beneath” will focus on the mental health and wellbeing of the whole family following childhood acquired brain injury.

In November 2008 the Secretary of State for Health responded to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health review by stating. “There is still a great deal of change that needs to take place at all levels of the system, to support the delivery of an integrated, mental health and psychological well-being service that is organised around children and young people’s needs”.

Key note speaker - Professor Eric Taylor
The UK’s Leading Child Psychiatrist and Head of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London.

Professor Eric Taylor has been awarded the Ruane Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research by NARSAD, a world leading mental health charity dedicated to research into mental health disorders.

Professor Taylor has headed the child psychiatry department at the Institute for 15 years, and chairs an interdisciplinary research group on the childhood problems
that lead to poor adult mental health.

Expert speakers will:
• Highlight children and young people’s mental health services
• Speak about their personal experiences of mental health and depression following childhood acquired brain injury
• Discuss how educators can help children affected by acquired brain injury fulfill their potential
• Present new ways of working within neuropsychological services
• Debate recent academic research about mental health and wellbeing following childhood acquired brain injury

An exhibition of poetry by young people will be displayed throughout the day
