Raising Awareness
Families affected by acquired brain injury face new and complicated issues every day. Many of these issues could be addressed if more people know about acquired brain injury and how it affects family life.
There is very little understanding or knowledge in the community about acquired brain injury and the impact it has on families. The long term effects are very difficult to predict because childrens' brains are still developing and outcomes will be dependent on the individual. Despite this however, we know that the issues are lifelong.
Due to the fact that the Child Brain Injury Trust is a charity and isn't subject to the same influences and restrictions as statutory service, we are able to:
- Directly support families in a holistic way to ensure that they receive the support and information that is most relevant to them
- Work with/ alongside professionals working with the child and family in order to inform and raise awareness of the issues
- Work with government agencies to review policies and procedures for statutory services
For many years, the Child Brain Injury Trust has spoken to families from all over the UK and we have built a very clear picture of what life is like for families following an acquired brain injury. We are currently looking to speak with families about their experiences in the following counties of England:
- Oxfordshire
- Buckinghamshire
- Northamptonshire
