History of the Child Brain Injury Trust
Historically
The Child Brain Injury Trust was created by a group of health professionals in 1991 to provide information regarding the effects of 'traumatic' injury on a child's developing brain. The organisation was originally known as the Children's Head Injury Trust (CHIT) and focussed on raising money to fund research, promoting information about children's head injury and supporting families.Parents of children with a head injury were keen to become actively involved with the Trust and the emphasis of our work changed. Supporting children and families, and providing accessible literature began to take precendence over seeking funding for research. It became clear that families needed support regardless of how their child's brain injury came about which eventually led to a re-evaluation of our objectives and a change of name in 2001.
