A Night with the Stars – 29th March 2008
The stars were out in force for CBIT’s ‘A Night with the Stars’ event. Held at Oxford’s most prestigious hotel, The Randolph, the night was an outstanding success.
The event raised over £12,000 for CBIT and the event was made possible thanks to the support of our Event Partners, Harris Ventures and 2e2. We would like to thank both of our major sponsors for helping CBIT to honour the children, families and professionals that we work with.
Our sponsors presented 5 outstanding individuals with awards on the night.
Darragh Somers - CBIT Star Achiever Under 13 sponsored by Voyage
Darragh was just 5 years old when he was shot through the head whilst playing with his friends in the school playground. Darragh remained in hospital for two months following the shooting and as a result lives with partial sight, left sided weakness and a loss of sensation. In spite of going through this horrific ordeal and the difficulties that he now faces, little Darragh is a bright and happy boy.

Bethany Miller – CBIT Star Achiever Over 13 sponsored by Charles Stanley Stockbrokers
Bethany Miller, winner of this award is a shining example to us all. Bethany suffered a stroke when she was just 5 years old. In spite of her obvious difficulties, she has an infectious personality and brightens the lives of everyone she meets! Bethany is a great ambassador for all young people living with a disability.

Vivien Montgomery – Superstar Parent Award sponsored by Serious Law, the Serious Injury Law Practice
This award was presented to a Superstar gran. Vivien’s grandson suffered an ABI at just 4 ½ months old when he started to have seizures – up to 40 a day. Every day for the past 10 years, Vivien has travelled over 30 miles to help care for Daryl. It is incredibly tough for Daryl’s whole family to provide him with the intense care that he needs. Vivien is a constant source of help for the family and really goes beyond the call of duty for any grandparent.

Charlie Clegg – CBIT Shining Star sponsored by 2e2
When Charlie was just 5 years old, he witnessed a horrific accident involving his little sister, Sara. The car that Sara was travelling in was hit by a train at a crossing. Sara suffered major head injuries and now lives with the impact of ABI. Charlie helps Sara with her homework, takes her out to play and even makes her fancy dress costumes for Halloween! Charlie’s commitment to his family is commendable and we were so happy to honour his achievements.

Erica Watson- CBIT Star Professional sponsored by Smiffy’s
Erica is a Play Therapist at the Oxford Children’s Hospital. She was nominated for an award by a young person living in Oxfordshire who was diagnosed with a rare tumour in 2003. Erica has made a huge difference in the lives of the children she works with and for their whole family.
