In 2005 we set up a Telephone Buddying scheme. The idea is to put parents in touch with each other, to share expertise and strategies they have learned along the way. Sometime parents find that they have a lot in common – they can use each other’s ideas with their child, and sometimes they become good friends. Other times, it’s more of ‘fact finding’ phone call – they get in touch when they find out more about the children’s condition, rehabilitation or future.
Your telephone calls don’t have to be very frequent. You can choose how often you would like to be in touch with someone – weekly, once a month or less. If things change and you can’t continue we can simply arrange a replacement buddy…
If you would like to have telephone contact with another parent – why not give us a call? You won’t be pressured into anything and you will be given the chance to ‘opt out’ at any point. The scheme is run by Mary Dryburgh, Child and Family Support Officer, 0141 945 4894.
