CatherineCatherine
I’m Catherine Murnin. I live in rural County Down with my husband and three children. I’ve worked with CBIT since 2005 and love my job. It is great to be doing something where I feel I can make a difference to families’ lives. There is still a long way to go to make sure that childhood acquired brain injury services in Northern Ireland meet the needs of families and CBIT is working hard to make that happen.

When I’m not working I spend most of my time with my family. I enjoy music and write a bit of poetry now and again. My friends know they can call on me if they want a few words that rhyme for a birthday celebration or a leaving ‘do’, but I’m no poetic genius! When I socialise I’ve been known to think I’m the dancing queen so people try to avoid Abba songs when I’m around!

KarenKaren
I’m Karen, and I’m the Child and Family Support Officer in Northern Ireland.
I have been with CBIT since January 2006 supporting families who are living with an acquired brain injury, whether this is through regular home and hospital visits or working closely with schools, providing training and awareness about ABI and individual children’s needs.
I also organise many fun days out for the whole family, a great chance for mum and dad to relax and meet new people!

I have recently moved house so my spare time is usually spent deciphering flat pack furniture instructions or attempting to paint!
Although when I’m really relaxing I’m with my fiancé and friends, usually eating out or going to concerts, I adore music and just recently saw the lovely Roisin Murphy.
My other favourite things are writing and travelling and the place I really would love to visit one day is Tibet.

GillianGillian
Hi, my name is Gillian and I joined the CBIT team in October 2007 and I am one of two Child and Family Support officers working in Northern Ireland. Prior to joining CBIT I spent over 6 years working with children and young adults with learning disabilities and I continue to work with young children with Autism. I currently live in Belfast but I enjoy travelling to different countries in my spare time.

GinaGina
Hello, my name is Gina Connor and I live in Garvagh with my husband Brian and our three children – Ben (12), James (11) and Rebecca (9). James sustained a severe head injury 7 years ago but has thankfully made a good recovery, albeit not a complete one. I first got involved with CBIT about 5 years ago when I was invited to talk at a conference and since then CBIT has been unable to get rid of me! I am now being trained to deliver the Don’t judge a book by its cover workshop in schools with Karen, Catherine and Bob which will undoubtedly help our children as they go through the education system. The girls at CBIT are fantastic. If you ever have a problem that needs sharing or sorting out, they will do anything in their power to help you. We are lucky to have them in Northern Ireland!

Bob and FamilyBob
My name is Bob Trotter and my wife Lorna and I are the parents of a 3 year old daughter called Katie who has a brain injury. Katie acquired her injury as a result of treatment she underwent when her lungs collapsed at 4 months. She needed to go on a lung bypass machine and in order for her blood to flow freely through the machine it had to be thinned. Unfortunately as a result of the thinning, Katie tool a bleed on the left hand side of her brain, causing her to be a right sided hemiplegic. We found out about CBIT through the internet and became involved as it a great help meeting other families in a similar position to ourselves. Not only is CBIT a great source of support, but we all enjoy the family fun days out, especially our other daughter Hannah who is almost 6 and the CBIT team have become good friends to our family
