We are delighted to welcome Sir Thomas Allen CBE as Patron of CBITs Child and Family Support Project North East.
Sir Thomas was born in County Durham and retains strong links with the region. He is closely involved with the Samling Foundation, based in Hexham, Northumberland, that promotes talented young singers of the future.
He is widely regarded as one of the finest singers in the world and he is famed for his interpretations of the major characters in Mozart opera. A versatile and dramatic performer he has sung a wide range of roles including Sweeney Todd in Sondheim’s musical of the same name at the Royal Opera House.
He has made many recordings.
He also directs opera and recently worked with Scottish Opera in Glasgow on a production of Don Giovanni. He directs the Samlings annual opera production at the Sage Gateshead.
His outstanding contribution to the world of music has been recognised by the award of numerous honours.
CBIT North East is very lucky to have secured Sir Thomas’s support as our second Patron and look forward to working with him in the future.
We are very happy to announce that Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland has kindly agreed to become the first Patron of the Child and Family Support Project in the North East of England.
The Duchess is currently heavily involved in her own major project at The Alnwick Garden but has recognised the importance of this Project. She is “delighted that it is being introduced to the North East”. Her Grace hopes to be able to become more involved with CBIT when her load there lightens but meanwhile she, like ourselves, is busy fundraising and seeking support for a very important project.
The Duchess feels that to succeed “you have to have total conviction that your project will be successful, believe in it 100 per cent and be prepared to work at it until you have delivered. People from the North East are often suitably strong characters and are definitely committed to their region”.
This is certainly true of the dedication to the Child and Family Support Project here in the North East and we hope that the involvement of our Patrons will strengthen our profile and further raise awareness of the Project in the next few crucial months.
